Stop Feeling Hungry On Your Diet

By Vito La Fata

After 12 years in the fitness industry and hundreds of fitness challenges, competitions, clients and study, you can ask any dieter and she will tell you that the hardest part of losing weight is feeling hungry. And that can be a huge monkey wrench in your attempts to manage a healthy weight.

But not only is going hungry no fun, it is also not practical over the long haul. You can only live with hunger pains for so long. After a while, you will likely grow tired of being miserably hungry and just give up altogether. Thankfully, there is another solution. You just need to know which foods to eat when you get hungry.

For example, if you fill your stomach with 400 calories of chicken, you will have barely eaten any and still feel hungry. But if you fill your stomach up with 400 calories of high fiber, dense plant foods, you can eat much more food! For example, four cups of romaine lettuce only contains 40 calories! Think of how full you would feel if you ate that much romaine lettuce!

Now of course you can't live on romaine lettuce, but you have plenty of calories left over to add some protein (beans and legumes), fat (a few nuts), and other foods. And all that fiber will take a long time to digest, so your full feeling will last a lot longer.

The result? More food, less calories, less hunger, more weight loss! You see, the longer you are full and the more satisfied you feel, few instances of 'cheating' you will have to deal with. You will have more will power available if you feel comfortably full.

The next time you are hungry, do not reach for salty snacks or fatty foods. Instead, reach for fiber and see how it fills you up and helps your will power. Keep lots of healthy, fiber filled snacks around your house, in your car and in your office. That way, you will be less tempted to reach for things that will sabotage your weight loss efforts.
